The form of blood donation when a donation is made directly to a specific patient.
Directed blood donation is only possible with a blood group identity, i.e., the blood group of the patient and the donor must match, this way we can separate the blood products can be used guaranteed for that patient.
All blood donors who apply for a directed blood donation are informed by the investigating physician of HNBTS that if their blood type is not identical with the patient's blood type, direct blood donation is not possible and the blood cannot be "exchanged". The blood donor can then decide whether to donate blood in non-directed way. In this case, another, unknown patient receives the blood taken from her/him.
Of course, everyone who feels healthy and fit is welcome to donate blood, and we hope that if “directed blood donation” fails due to blood type mismatch, selfless blood donations can also be expected for unknown patients in need.
How is directed blood donation performed?
In the case of directed blood donation, you must indicate during data collection that you wish to donate blood in the form of directed blood donation. To do this, you must complete a regulatory statement, which will require the following information:
Patient data
- Name
- Date of Birth
- Social Security Number (TAJ)
- Blood group
Details of the patient’s healthcare providing institution:
- city
- name of institution and patient care department
A fully completed Declaration of Interest is a prerequisite for directed blood donation.
Directed blood donation is available at all blood donation sites.
After that, the blood donation is similar to the traditional blood donation.
